I thought it was interesting that JSC decided to suspend operations for Tropical Storm Edouard. Yesterday was a blue-sky day, perfectly clear night. Then we had steady but light rain all day today.
How has the 1.5 day hiatus affected your work? Will you be able to accomplish everything you needed to get done this week?
How do you feel about the call to suspended operations?

I don’t believe it is NASA mgmt’s call. Operations were suspended for all government workers in the Houston area (county, State and Fed), with the exception of critical personnel.

Oh… good to know!

I’ll be able to get all my work done this week by cramming more into the remaining days. What I probably won’t get to is the get-ahead work that I like to chew away at when I have time.

I am able to get most of my objectives met before the end of the week. I won’t be able to get as far as I’d hoped on one particular project, but that’s a minor impact, at best.

It is NASA Mgt’s call. The decision was made on Monday morning due to the forecast of a very strong tropical storm or a Category 1 hurricane that was coming right at JSC on Tuesday morning. Employees were let go early Monday so they could get their homes in order, or evacuate if they wished. We don’t really want to require employees to drive to work in 70mph winds. The little jog North during the night made our impact much less severe. It takes a little while to button up the Center, and then unwind it all after the storm passes.
But it’s NASA’s call and we are just trying to look out for employee safety. Fortunately it turned at the last minute.

Little to no impact. I should be able to get all my work done this week just fine. I think they made the right call. Better to be safe than sorry. If Edouard had been out there just a day or so longer, it could have been a much bigger deal.

@Joel Walker: I am very thankful that JSC puts employee safety first. Yes, it was very fortunate that the storm didn’t directly hit us!
