Unfortunately compomise, wasting money on heavy lifters or constellation or extending the shuttle, (instead of using the current commercial launchers and heavy lifters available) will only slow the development of space.
Compromising will only slow the development of space, the exact opposite of what these people AND the supporters of the Obama plan were hoping for. If these people had the imagination to understand that using commercial rockets and heavy lifters to get to Leo and building a true spaceship in orbit that was equiped with chemical rockets to initiate flight and Vasimr ion engines capable of reaching the speeds necessary for interplanetary travel, a ship that stayed in orbit and was refueled in orbit then they would get to Mars or the Moon much faster and stay there, unlike with Apollo or Constellation.

.
France has ordered 14 Soyuz carrier rockets from Russia (for only $1 billion) to launch from Kourou:

.
so, MY suggestion to Launch the Soyuz from KSC is a GREAT IDEA to FILL the 6-10 years US spaceflight GAP and SAVE up to $20 billion to invest in the development of an HLV for lunar missions:
